Mills Pleased with Grants for Land Acquisition
State Senator Peter Mills continuing his campaign for Maine's Republican nomination indicated his pleasure at the decision by Land for Maine's Future board's vote of $12 million grants for land preservation.
In particular Mills noted the grant to help preserve Katahdin Iron Works in eastern Piscataquis County. Said Mills, "In addition to providing access to the Appalachian Trail Katahdin Iron Works has long been known as a critical historic and environmental Maine site. It provides access to Gulf Hagas, the Grand Canyon of Maine, the Barren-Chairback range of mountains, and the lake and wilderness land south of Baxter State Park."
Mills also noted his pleasure at grants that went to continue conservation parcel acquisition from Amnherst to Milford in Hancock and Penobscot Counties as well as bog preservations near Moose River in Piscataquis County and in Caribou in northern Aroostook County.
Mills will campaign Thursday in Brunswick as well as attending a reception by supporters in Cumberland. Friday he will campaign in Bangor-Brewer.
